The Model Project
Through individual and collaborative assignments, “The Model Project” investigates the concept of childhood memory through many material and narrative transformations. Students build 3D models defining the space of a specific memory, then explore it photographically, taking 100 different photographs where they can explore dramatic lighting and camera angles. A narrative book is made based on these 100 photographs, and the book eventually becomes a storyboard for a stop-motion video project. Students work in groups, each member is assigned a role such as Director, Producer, Secretary or Resource Manager. These production groups then learn Final Cut Pro, Premier video editing and Ableton Live sound-editing software as well as a basic introduction to digital photography. Sound engineers are invited each semester to conduct workshops on sound building and editing in the GSU School of Music.
